Which Ethernet Internet Network is Right for You?

If you’re thinking of investing in an Ethernet internet network for your business, good choice!  Ethernet technology is popular for a reason!

But with so many different choices out there, which type of Ethernet network is right for you?

Honestly, there is no “magic” answer.  Instead, the right answer depends on your:

Budget

Just because you love the perks that come with a fiber-based Ethernet internet network doesn’t mean you can actually afford one.  Luckily, though, there are plenty of bells and whistles on a copper network, too.

In fact, copper was widely-regarded to be “as good as it gets” until fiber came along.  So, if your budget will only allow for a copper network, you don’t have to feel like you’re settling!

Employees

It’s easy to say that having more employees requires a bigger Ethernet internet network.  However, a smaller company doesn’t necessarily mean you can get away with having a simpler network.

Instead of just doing a head-count and calling it a day, you need to look at what your employees actually DO in a day.  For example, do they spend most of their time on the web sending and receiving huge files?  If so, you’re going to need to invest in a much more sophisticated Ethernet internet network than you would if your employees didn’t rely on the web as much.

Company set-up

Does your company do all of its work in a single building?  Or, are you spread out at different locations all over the place?  If it’s the latter, you’ll need to invest in an Ethernet internet network that offers point-to-multipoint service.  That way, you can connect as many locations as you need to onto a single network.

Point-to-point networks are less complicated (and usually less expensive), but they can only connect your main office to one other location. So, if you’ve got a bunch of offices, one of these networks just won’t cut it!

Future plans

Even if you don’t have a bunch of different office hubs now, if there’s a chance you might at some point down the road, you need to invest in a point-to-multipoint Ethernet internet network.  That way, whenever your business expands, you won’t have to give your technology a complete overhaul.

And, if you’ve got the budget to accommodate it, you might as well invest in a fiber-based Ethernet internet network now, too.  That way, you’ll already have the best of the best – and you won’t have to worry about upgrading your technology anytime soon!
